Why Before How: The Key to Lasting Success

In three decades of working with teams, I’ve discovered that the most successful organizations are those that understand the importance of the “why” before the “how.” Before jumping to solutions, it’s crucial to understand the underlying needs and motivations that drive your team. This clarity is the foundation for any successful conflict resolution or collaborative effort. When your team understands why an issue exists, they can address the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms.

This approach leads to more effective, lasting solutions that not only resolve current challenges but also prevent future ones.

“I feel more equipped when approaching difficult discussions, especially with employees that tend to be more difficult to chat with.”

Application Process

Space in the pilot is limited to 20 teams, and I’m committed to working with those who will benefit most. To ensure the right teams join at the right time, I’ve created an application process that includes a confidential call with me. During the call, I’ll answer your questions, assess where your team excels, identify areas for improvement, and discuss your team’s goals. Together, we’ll determine if this program is the right fit. If it’s not the optimal next step, I’ll suggest other actions to consider before training with me.

The Conflict Decoder: A Comprehensive Program for Your Team’s Success

The foundation of the The Conflict Decoder for Teams program is Why Before How.
Your team will learn the concepts, skills and processes necessary to implement that simple but transformational process to shift from conflict to collaboration. Each team member will receive their own Collaboration In A Box tool and will together learn how to use it for maximum impact. The team leader will also have the benefit of two follow-up coaching calls with Kirstin Lund to support and trouble-shoot implementation.

Application Process

Space in the pilot is limited to 20 teams and I want to work with teams I know will benefit. To ensure the pilot includes the right teams at the right time for them, I’ve created an application process that includes a confidential call with me so I can answer any questions, hear where your team is doing well and where they could use some support, and what your goals for your team are. Then we’ll talk about whether the program is a good fit right now (and if I (or you) think it’s not your optimal next step, I’ll give you some suggestions for other actions you could take before considering training with me.)

“Improvement was seen in all areas. Improved teamwork, more collaboration/collaboration among staff. Staff are more open to problem-solving, and seeking support.”

The Heart of the Solution: Collaboration In A Box Card Deck

The true innovation in our program lies in the Collaboration In A Box card deck—a tool that transforms how your team communicates, collaborates, and resolves issues.

A Revolutionary Approach to Team Collaboration

In close to 30 years of mediating workplace conflicts, I have identified a core set of 52 interpersonal needs that consistently arise in team dynamics. These needs are the key to understanding and resolving conflicts, enhancing communication, and fostering collaboration. The Collaboration In A Box card deck distills these insights into a tangible, easy-to-use tool that helps your team:

How the Collaboration In A Box Card Deck Works

Each card in the deck represents a specific interpersonal need, such as fairness, efficiency or feeling valued.

When faced with a challenge or conflict, team members use the card deck to identify the needs at play and incorporate that crucial knowledge into the learned problem solving process to make it super easy to implement. This process not only clarifies the issue but also opens up new avenues for creative problem-solving.

For example, instead of a team member feeling frustrated and unheard, the card deck gives them a tool to identify their concerns as well as language to express them in a non-confrontational way that won’t escalate conflict. The team can then work together to find a solution that meets this need while also addressing the needs of others.

The Collaboration In A Box card deck is more than just a tool—it’s a game-changer for how your team operates. It makes the often difficult task of clarifying and communicating needs simple, tangible, and even enjoyable.

How to Get Started

Investing in your team’s development is an investment in your organization’s future success.

When The Conflict Decoder for Teams program is launched, the price will be $15,000 but is now available for a pilot price of $5,995 plus HST for the first 20 teams (to a maximum of 24 team members.)

This is a fraction of the cost of hiring a conflict coach or consultant and much less than the time and stress lost to managing unresolved workplace conflicts (which most team leaders indicate eats up 40% of their own time and a quarter day a week of each team member’s.)

Ready to empower your team to reach new heights? Apply today and Kirstin will reach out to book a time to discuss whether this is the right fit for your team to get started on the path to a more collaborative, productive, and supportive workplace.
